Joel Dearing

Joel Dearing serves as an FCA campus adviser and has been the FCA Huddle sponsor at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, for 27 years. He was also the catalyst for a strong Coaches Huddle in the city of Springfield over the past year. Dearing is also a volleyball coach, Camp director and author.

Dearing served in many roles before joining the Springfield College faculty in 1989, including director of athletics, associate director of athletics and assistant director of athletics for Roger Williams University. He also coached men’s and women’s collegiate volleyball at Springfield and Roger Williams, spanning 1981 to 2010. Dearing had a career record of 899-384, coached 10 All-Americans, and his Springfield men’s team finished the 1996 season ranked number one and undefeated in NCAA Division III. Dearing was honored in 2013 by the International Volleyball Hall of Fame as the Mintonette Medallion of Merit Award honoree and in 2015 was selected to the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame. He is the owner and director of Dearing Volleyball School, Inc., which he’s been running since 1984, and the author of “Volleyball Fundamentals” and “The Untold Story of William G. Morgan—Inventor of Volleyball.”

Dearing is married to his wife, Diane.
