John Gordy, an All-American at the University of Tennessee, spent 11 seasons in the NFL as an offensive guard with the Detroit Lions. The three-time All-Pro and member of the All-Time Detroit Lions team also served as the first Executive Director for the National Football League Player’s Association, where he negotiated the first collective bargaining agreement in professional sports history.

Following his career in the NFL, Gordy began as a volunteer in Southern California where FCA did not have a strong presence. He took it upon himself to establish and lead FCA Huddle groups in the middle of gang-riddled areas and high schools including South Central (Los Angeles) and Santa Anita. Gordy continued his service by raising funds for FCA helping to establish an FCA Board of Directors in Southern California and sending hundreds of student-athletes to various FCA camps from the area.
