Dr. O.K. Bailey first learned of FCA when he heard the New York Yankees’ Bobby Richardson speak at a Shreveport, La., crusade in 1964. After hearing Richardson speak of FCA’s influence, “Doc” spread the message to local Shreveport high schools and helped to create the Northern Louisiana FCA.

Bailey, who was an initial Northern Louisiana FCA board member in the late 1960s, received the first Founders Award in 1991. Following his honor in 1991, The Founders Award became the Dr. O.K. Bailey Founders Award given to the Shreveport/Bossier City FCA volunteer who best exemplifies the qualities of character, integrity and dependability Doc, himself, displayed.
